I am Caitlin. I’m a Ph.D. Candidate in the School of Leadership Studies at Gonzaga University and an Assistant Ombuds for the State of Washington. My dissertation explores the ripple effects of higher education behind bars (HEBB). I have a master’s in conflict and dispute resolution, a graduate certificate in peace and justice studies, and a bachelor’s in political science. I am primarily interested in exploring the ripple effects of restorative practices and eradicating systemic injustice. I’ve helped create opportunities for learning, growth, and community healing by facilitating restorative processes with university students, community members, in youth programs, and inside prisons; as a comprehensive case manager in reentry and workforce development programs; and as a career coach for university students. My efforts flow from my commitment to mobilizing people’s power and a work ethic shaped by sustainability and anti-racism solidarity. Prior to starting my dissertation I remember enjoying being a bike commuter; tending to my organic food producing home garden; learning about natural remedies; planning for and engaging in international travels; living in an intentional community; and studying and exploring tarot cards.
